What is prayer?
There are as many answers as you can imagine. But the scriptures, in particular Matthew 6, offer us some insights. Here are 5 to start us off:

Jesus encourages us to come to God as Father, 'our father'. He is not to be a distant ogre. But the loving one who wants us to pray...
normal
Jesus says 'when you pray..'. It is not for the spiritual superstars or just those who enjoy quiet. It is for anyone and can be done in any way you like...
simple
Jesus understands the simple and honest words 'don't keep babbling...don't use many words'
God-focussed
Jesus directs us to God before anything else, 'hallowed be your name, your kingdom come', it's the best place to start...
expectant
Jesus encourages us to ask for things and expect God to answer, 'give us our...', God may of course answer as he sees fit, not as we might want...
