7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." 8
Jeremiah 29
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels."
Psalm 122
As part of the preparation for the Global Day of Prayer at Pentecost this year, we are asked to join in prayer for London. During the last 12 months we have been reminded of God’s call to us to be part of the city, working praying and witnessing for it and to it. Prayer is an integral part of what it means to be called to the city.
What are your prayers for London and Walthamstow?
We are encouraged to pray for the following areas of London life in particular:
• Healthcare
• Transport
• The Church
• Government
• Education
• Business
• Marginalised people

I was struck by the TV pictures of the Olympic site yesterday at how they offered the usual planners perfection. A 'prettied-up' view of the future, nothing like how the 'lived in' Olympic site will really look like post 2012 - green roofs making it seem more green, no litter or graffiti, etc. The media bombards us with unreal promises. I pray that we won't give a 'prettied-up' version of the gospel but will be honest about what it means to be a Christian. Jesus' promises can only change lives when we are honest - 'real life' Christians sharing 'real life' with their neighbours.
